Alien Encounters of the Texas Kind

January 15, 2008

Perhaps we are not alone. Just the other day I was talking with my friend about whether or not there was life on other planets. We theorized that there was probably single-celled lifeforms somewhere out there in the vast galaxy, but who knows what else? I said that if there were any human-like entities on other planets, perhaps they would look and function differently depending on their planet’s atmosphere.

Then I wondered aloud whether or not they were created in the image of God, and what exactly that meant. Plus, we agreed, they would definitely have to have technology far superior to earth’s, because as far as I know, we cannot travel great distances beyond our own galaxy. But you never know what those super-secret lab rats are working on, do you?

The truth is that a lot of people don’t think we’re alone in the universe, and these aren’t just people who watch Area 51 with high-tech surveillance. They’re real, normal, and otherwise grounded people, except for the fact they say they’ve seen a UFO.

According to a recent news article, dozens of residents in a small Texas town have reported seeing UFOs (full story). The story says that some of those reporting the sightings include a county constable, a pilot, and several business owners. Obviously the story is more legitimate if all these highly respectable folks saw the flying spacecraft. It’s even reported that the unusual craft was being followed (or chased) by a some fighter jets.

Naturally, the Feds are saying there’s a logical explanation, but refuse to elaborate on what that logical explanation is. The sightings have been reported over the past few weeks, so it appears whatever it is wants to make contact.

One guy, a machinist named Ricky Sorrells, offers what is probably one of the best quotes I’ve ever read in a news article. He says, “”You hear about big bass or big buck in the area, but this is a different deal. It feels good to hear that other people saw something, because that means I’m not crazy.” Sorrells has seen the object several times, watching it through his rifle’s telescopic lens. Perhaps he was looking for the big buck at the same time.

Authorities say that there’s nothing to be alarmed about and that the public probably just saw airplanes. To which the public says, “I know what an airplane looks like and this was no airplane.” There are two Air Force bases in the area, so perhaps some super secret technology is really what was flying around in the night sky. By the way, the Air Force no longer investigates UFO sightings–something about being too busy fighting the war in Iraq.

Anyway, fortunately, there are people who have time to check out what’s going on over the skies of Stephenville, TX, and they’re called the Mutual UFO Network (seriously, you gotta check out their website). I’m sure their findings will be published into a book for “true believers” and then made into a hit movie. Until then, we can all ponder the mystery of the UFOs.
