Finally…”Psych” is back!

January 12, 2008

Henry Spencer (L) and Burton Guster (R) look on as Shawn fakes another psychic vision. By the way, if you don’t know yet, Shawn’s not really psychic. He just has amazing visual recall and deductive reasoning skills. But he pretends that he gets his knowledge via psychic visions instead of astute observation. Hilarity ensues.

Shawn (James Roday) and Gus (Dule Hill) are back for the third season of USA’s hit show, “Psych”. Private “psychic” detective Shawn Spencer (who also likes to give himself various titles such as “lead psychic detective of the Santa Barbara Police Department”) and his best friend Burton “Gus” Guster investigate the mysterious disappearance of the man that Gus’ wife was about to marry. Yes, Gus is married. Apparently it happened on spring break while Gus was in college, but the whole thing’s been annulled. Or Gus thought it was, but former wife, Mira, tracks down Gus via a very pathetic private detective to get the final papers signed.

Meanwhile, Detectives Lassie and O’Hare have a cut throat competition to determine who is the better detective (though there was no official determination, I think Shawn bags it when he says that he scored 100% on the detective test when he was only 15). Naturally, both story lines eventually collide when Mira’s fiance reappears, but then later disappears is found dead.  Naturally, Shawn and Gus solve the gas and all is well in the world, or at least in Santa Barbara. Hurrah!

Next week, Shawn and Gus check Shawn’s Dad, Henry Spencer, into a retirement community to do an undercover gig. It should be grand fun.

I’m sure that,  like me, other “Psych” fans are wondering–what’s going to happen with Shawn and Juliet after their near lip lock on the season finale last summer? Since I don’t have the amazing psychic skills that Shawn possesses, I guess I’ll just have to wait and see. By the way, James Roday and Maggie Lawson are apparently dating according to this fan site.

Did anyone else think Shawn was going to ‘fess up to Gus about his feelings for Juliet when he faked Gus out with those Photoshopped wedding photos? Yeah, I’m sure that’s what the writers wanted us to think. Personally, I don’t want there to be a Shawn/Juliet hook-up. It would probably be lame and definitely ruin the Shawn/Gus connection…don’t you agree? The writers would do well to toy with us, but never actually establish a true romance between Shawn and Juliet. But, hey, what do I know? I still don’t understand why a pineapple shows up all over the place…and now Clark bars?

  1. I don’t get the pineapple and clark bars either! But Psych rocks!

  2. LOL ya I agree with the pineapple thing, idk maybe shawn has an obsession with pineappes! I kind of agree with you on the not letting the shawn/juliet thing to happen because well it would definitly get in between the awesome duo of Shawn and Gus BUT i think the writers are being meanies for kind of dangling the idea of shawn and juliet but not actually establishing it, ya know? It’s complete torture to all the shawn/juliet fans out there!!!! hehe

  3. The pineapple was an idea that James Roday (Shawn) and Dule Hill (Gus) came up with actually. They found a pineapple prop in the prop room and just carried it on set…the rest is history.

As for Shawn/Juliet, in one of the follow-up episodes to Season 2 he tells her that she had her shot as he flirts with another woman. So, that’s that.

Ironically, James Roday and Maggie Lawson (Juliet) are dating in real life.
